Producing
their own wafers, cells and modules assures that the highest quality components
go into every one of Evergreen's panels. And since they are made with
String Ribbon™ technology, their panels take advantage of one of
the newest, fastest-growing, most environmentally friendly manufacturing
processes available in the world.
Evergreen Solar is a fully integrated, independent
company. Solar is their only business. Evergreen's commitment to the environment
is matched only by their commitment to their customers. If you want the
best in solar, make the pure choice…Evergreen Solar panels.
Evergreen will be phasing out the old 12/24V NKP
line of modules with the field configurable junction box in favor
of the new GDK line. This new line of 12V only modules will have
slim sealed J-boxes with built in MC Connectors on them, making installation
a snap.

Technology
To understand the importance of String Ribbon technology
is to grasp the elegant balance it strikes between conventional and emerging
technologies.
Simple
String Ribbon combines the best attributes of conventional crystalline silicon
and emerging thin films. It achieves the reliability, stability, high efficiency,
and market acceptance of crystalline silicon - without the inherent cost and
waste of sawing. And it embodies the efficient material utilization and potential
for continuous processing of thin films, but with a more manufacturable process.
Reliable In the String
Ribbon technique, two high temperature strings are pulled vertically through
a shallow silicon melt, and the molten silicon spans and freezes between the
strings. The process is continuous: long strings are unwound from spools; the
melt is replenished; and the silicon ribbon is cut to length for further processing,
without interrupting growth. This advantage in material efficiency means String
Ribbon yields over twice as many solar cells per pound of silicon as conventional
methods. Additionally, the resulting distinctive shape of the solar cell allows
for a high packing density.
Advanced Ongoing technology
development shows great promise for even lower cost. Early experiments have
produced 15% solar cells on thin 100 micron wafers. And downstream, in cells
and modules, Evergreen Solar is developing processes that are simple, continuous,
non-vacuum, high throughput, environmentally benign, and energy efficient.
